The Bamboo
Premium quality Japan grown Henon Bamboo 2-3 years of age, which are oil drained and subsequently sun-dried for 2 months time in the cold January to Feburary mountains of Ikoma Takayama. Under this climate, the bamboo strengthens and formulates a beautiful gloss. It is then stored for 2 years before it is used for Chasen crafting.

Suikouen is a long-established maker of tea whisks based in the Takayama district of Nara Prefecture. This region is renowned as the birthplace of tea whisk production, with a history spanning approximately 500 years, and Suikouen continues to uphold this tradition. In particular, the bamboo tea whisks crafted by artisan Toshiyuki Hirata are notable for their precision and beautiful finish, as each whisk is meticulously hand-carved. Tea whisks are essential tools for whisking matcha, and Suikouen’s products are praised for their excellent frothing ability and ease of use.
